Not the “friendly domestic” service they advertise!
Chose Maximum for a routine air conditioning service because of their “friendly domestic and commercial” image approach (see website).
They rescheduled at the last minute, which I accepted. The engineer arrived, found the system low on gas, and said the service could not be carried out due to low gas level... yet basic tasks like filter cleaning, coil cleaning, and drainage checks do not depend on the gas levels. None of these were done. Instead, the engineer left early to take his van to the garage. I accepted the situation on site and asked for a repair quote, not imagining I would still be charged the quoted £270 for the non-service.
When I received the invoice, I explained politely that charging the full £270 for under an hour with no servicing felt unfair. After several back and forth, their response... a “gesture of goodwill” reducing it to £228 as a call-out, still far above the £120–£180 local rate here in Hampshire. I paid the £228, but a good service business would value fairness and long-term relationships... this felt purely extortionary.
My advice... stay away from them. Perhaps in the past domestic customers were important. In my line of work, I come across decisions on who gets service contracts for much larger properties... some companies forget how quickly reputations travel and how quietly opportunities disappear.
